Midwest Seniors Conference

When: Tuesday September 21st 9AM to 3PM, registration 8 to 9AM.

Where: Catlin Church of Christ, 715 w. Vermillion Street in Danville.

Training Program in Dementia, Alzheimer's care

Residents interested in providing skilled care for people with
Alzheimer's disease and related dementias will benefit from a new program at Parkland College featuring recognized experts in aging.

The six-session "Multi-Disciplinary Certificate Program in
Dementia Assessment, Care and Management" takes place every other
Friday starting September 10 through November 19, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30
p.m., in room D244 at the Parkland campus, 2400 West Bradley Avenue in
Champaign.

Professional continuing education credit is available for this program.
Interested persons may contact Parkland Business Training at 217/351-2235 for
more information or to register. Early registration is encouraged as space is
limited.

Community Education Classes

Commmunity Education Classes begin Monday, September 13th.

Make new friends and expand your horizons by taking a class in something fun and interesting at Urbana Adult Education.

Wish Granting Volunteers Needed

What can you do to help brighten the life of a child battling a life-threatening illness? Bring hope, strength and joy back into their lives by becoming a volunteer with the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Illinois. The Foundation is hosting a free training for wish granting volunteers on Thursday, September 23rd from 5:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. in Champaign, Illinois. Also, the Foundation is especially looking for volunteers who are bilingual in English and Spanish to fill a continuing need for bilingual wish granters.

To attend the training, potential volunteers must complete the volunteer application and an online training in advance; therefore, RSVP is required by September 15th. Space is limited and pre-registration is required. All volunteers must be over 18, must submit an application, reference and background check and must complete an online and brief in-person training to begin granting wishes. Caring for Your Aging Pet

Thanks to advances in veterinary medicine, today's pets are living longer, healthier lives. Dr. Graves will discuss the aging process in dogs and cats, common medical disorders of senior pets, and strategies for keeping
your pet healthy for as many years as possible.

Selecting the Right Pet for You

Thinking of adding a dog, cat, or small animal to your family? Discover
which type(s) of animal companions best suit your lifestyle and budget.
Dogs will receive the most attention given their popularity and great
variability, but cats and non-traditional pets will also be explored. You will have the opportunity to complete a lifestyle survey and ask questions regarding your specific needs.

The Basics of the Pet Food Label

Have you ever had difficulty interpreting or comparing pet food labels?

This session will provide a brief overview of the pet food label,
including a list of items that are required on all labels and those that
are optional.

Information on items such as guaranteed analysis, ingredient
definitions, feeding guidelines, and nutritional adequacy verification
will be provided.
