After working part-time for News-Talk 1400 and Lite Rock 97.5 for almost five years, I was finally fortunate enough to become the full-time overnight voice of Lite Rock 97.5 in October 2005. After relinquishing the overnight duties to Tom Young in 2006, I've continued to wear many hats at WDWS and WHMS. I still fill in on occasion for air shifts on both stations, and you'll most often hear me on the sports side of things, whether it's co-hosting the postgame shows for Fighting Illini football and men's basketball, or calling play-by-play for everything from Little League baseball to high school basketball, to Illinois soccer, volleyball, women's basketball, wrestling or softball.

I took a bit of a roundabout path into full-time radio. While in college at Truman State University in Kirksville, Missouri, I worked part-time for two years at KIRX/KRXL/KTUF radio stations. Most of my work was as a part-time reporter and anchor in the newsroom for all three stations, but I was also able to gather valuable experience as a board operator for KIRX-AM and on-air personality for KRXL-FM.

After graduation in 1998, my wife's teaching career took us to the St. Louis area. After a futile attempt to break into the St. Louis radio market, I took a temporary job at Borders Bookstore which lasted seven years! After two years in St. Louis, my wife and I sought an escape to our small-town roots. Borders in Champaign had a managerial opening, and I was fortunate enough to get the job.

Once I had been in the Champaign area for about six months, I decided to scratch my itch to get back into radio. I had listened to WDWS and WHMS, in large part for the University of Illinois sports programming. On a whim, I called to see if there were any part-time openings. As luck would have it, WDWS was looking for a part-time board operator to work on Saturdays, which worked perfectly with my schedule! It was also a great way to get back into radio, as I ran the board for the Saturday Sportsline program, hosted by Jim Turpin and Loren Tate. It reminded me of why I wanted to be in radio in the first place.

Jim and Loren always hosted an entertaining show, plus Eric Loy and Ed Bond did a great job of showing me the ropes of running the WDWS board. Gradually, I was able to contribute to other station programming, including Illinois pre-game and post-game shows on both WDWS and WHMS. Once I got a little bit of on-air time, I was hooked again.

So, here I am, living my dream by working in radio full-time. That's my story, and I'm sticking to it. Thanks for listening!
