Diane Ducey
I'm Diane Ducey, a third generation Tolonoian. I live with my husband Mike Anderson (25 yrs at Krannert Center) in the neighborhood where I grew up. After our wedding Sept 7, 2001 we went to NYC and saw Michael Jackson and 50 other performers in concert, which was great…but then we were in the Big Apple during 9/11 which was not so great.
Being a good mother to Gabrielle, Anna Jean and Aidan is a top priority. We have a wiener dog, Pixie. I was a Rocket in Unity High Schools Class of 85 and love connecting with alumni on facebook
Being the youngest of 6 in the Ducey family has me visiting older sisters in D.C., Seattle or the Tampa area when I can get away on vacation. My brothers Michael and Gary inherited by father’s concrete construction talents and live in the area running Duce Construction.
When we all get together with our spouses and kids there’s 27 of us.
I like doing things in my community and serve on committees at church (St. Patrick's in Tolono), our schools (Unity West) and Tolono's Fun Day (last Saturday in June) just to name a few. My dad was a founding park board member in Tolono and I have a great desire to steer property in my neighborhood in a way that all kinds of kids would benefit, perhaps with water spraying features as a nice centerpiece in our community. I have all kinds of ideas and enjoyed taking a grant writing class recently at Parkland so that maybe I can get some financial backing and put these thoughts of community enrichment in motion. That brings me to ways I try to cultivate this service oriented spirit of mine: "Giving" was a great read from former president Bill Clinton. I like self help books from TLC's "Clean Sweep" host Peter Walsh with books on getting organized, when I can find them under my piles!?!
The MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) group in Southern Champaign County is great and those ladies led me to neat books: Julie Barnhill's "One Tough Mother" with 10 No-Guilt ways to stand firm and be the mom. Anita Renfroe's humor about parenting cracks me up, too. Kendra Smiley's a local author who spoke to MOPS and I own a few of her books now that have helped me deal with my lil' man who has some characteristics on the Autistic Spectrum that Kendra may say is a strong willed child. It gives me great pleasure to help kids and I put in many hours reading with dramatic flare not only for my kids, but for lots of area schools looking for a media person to come visit their classrooms.
I have a DJ business and find myself teaching line dances and picking great songs to play at Daddy Daughter Dances, parties, wedding receptions and reunions quite often through the year and it's a blast! So that's a little about me, thanks for listening from noon to 3pm weekdays and 2-7pm Saturdays! Love to get some feedback at Dducey@whms.com
