Jeremy Hawthorne

Jeremy Hawthorne

Hello everyone. My name is Jeremy Hawthorne. I am the Promotions Director for Lite Rock 97.5 and NewsTalk1400. I also get to take people from their Friday nights into their Saturday mornings on Lite Rock 97.5 WHMS from Midnight until 6am

I've always had a love for music, as far back as I can remember. It was always a big part of my life. So it felt quite natural to work in radio. I enjoy a VERY wide variety of music, and I absolutely love working for this station. I get to work with some of most talented people I have ever met and more importantly, I feel like I'm apart of a great team.

Be prepared, this next part of the biography may get a little boring and/or weird. Because I'm about to tell you more about myself, outside of the station. So here we go. This is your last chance. "After this, there is no turning back. You take the blue pill - the story ends, you wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill - you stay in Wonderland and I show you how deep the rabbit-hole goes."

Good, you took the blue pill, my writing is not in vain. I'm originally from the southwest part of Virginia (born and raised for 24 years), so yes I do have a "southern accent". I lived in Bristol, Tennessee for a about a year before I decided to move to Rindge, NH to finish my Bachelor's degree. I moved up to New Hampshire and attended Franklin Pierce College. I majored in Psychology with concentration in Parapsychology. More importantly, this is where I met my wife, Katy. We worked on the same Residential Advisor staff, and lived in the same building. We started to date soon after I arrived at FPC, and then later, the real roller coaster started. We ended up getting married (which I would have to say is one of the best decisions I ever made) and settled in Massachusetts for awhile. After we got sick of the cold weather and the overall expense, we decided to move to Illinois because my wife's family is from Morris. We both found work in Champaign and everything has been pretty good ever since (*knocking on wood*).

I enjoy a lot of different activities, and when I'm not working at the station I try to keep myself busy. I classify myself as a huge geek and huge dork. I'm a big Trekkie. I especially love the "newer" Star Trek franchises. Also, I'm a HUGE gamer. I'm into all types of gaming. For example.....I own a PS3, Nintendo Wii, and an X-Box 360. I also own 2 gaming PCs (1 desktop and 1 laptop). Also, I enjoy playing table top role playing games like D&D and I even play the Collectible Card Game, Magic: The Gathering. And to boot, I'm an official member of the U of I Metagamers Club. Like I said, I'm a HUGE geek/dork.

And "in my spare time," I'm heavily involved in paranormal and parapsychological research. I been involved in this since 1996. The organization I founded is called The Anomalous Research Center. This is a true passion for me, and I enjoy doing this type of research a lot.

On a completely separate note....and I MEAN SEPARATE, I'm a big Ghostbusters fan. So much so that I'm currently in the process of building an Ecto-1 replica (the car from the movie). So in the words of Dan Aykroyd..."Everybody can relax, I found the car. Needs some suspension work and shocks. Brakes, brake pads, lining, steering box, transmission, rear-end...." This is a long project, but one that I'm enjoying, especially because these cars are so rare.

My tastes in movies vary. I enjoy comedies and horror movies alike. I'm a big Monty Python fan. I also enjoy anything directed or associated with George Romero.

So here you go, more than you probably ever wanted to know about me. Don't say I didn't warn you. And before I go, I just wanted to end this "little" biography by saying "Thank you" to our listeners. You are all appreciated and you all are a huge part of what make Champaign-Urbana great and why I love being apart of this community. Go Illini!
