Tom Young

Tom Young

I graduated from St. Joseph-Ogden High School in 2002 and the following semester, I went straight to Parkland CC. My first two years there I was going towards a degree in business, realized that wasn't working out to well, and decided to switch to something that I knew I would enjoy, communications. I stayed at Parkland for another year to learn and gain experience as a part of the media. After doing some Centennial football games on the Parkland station, I knew that radio was what I wanted to do.

I was able to get my job here at DWS/HMS through one of my classes at Parkland, and I am more than thankful of the way these people have taken me in. There isnt one person here thats hard to get along with, even though some still give me a hard time. I know they are all kidding, so I just laugh along. At least I think they are. Hmm.

Anyway, I am currently the overnight guy at the station. You can hear me on WHMS from midnight through 5:30a Monday-Friday right before Mike in the Morning. You can also hear me throughout the year with broadcast of little league baseball, high school basketball, and now U of I womens soccer. I also have some experience with high school football on another station. You can also here me from time to time on the Dave Gentry Show during his mostly commentary segment.

As for my free time, I try to stay pretty active. You might have heard Mike in the Morning and I talk about my disc golfing. This is the sport that I am most into in terms of playing. I have been playing it for about eight years, and love participating in tournaments throughout the year. They best I have done were a couple of 1st place finishes in back to back tournaments last summer in Springfield, IL and Bloomington, IL.

I am also the manager of a slow pitch softball team that plays at Dodds Park in Champaign on Wednesday Nights during the season (our team isnt that bad), and the other half of the year I am in a bowling league (our team is bad). Also big into video games (Xbox 360 and Xbox Live).

As for other sports, I am big Cub fan, Bear fan, Bull fan, U of I fan, and I am also really getting into indoor football. I am a season ticket holder for the Bloomington Extreme, and am looking forward to watching every game this year.

I appreciate you listening to us through the overnight. I know there are plenty of other things that you could be doing...like sleep. Sometimes, there are even days when sleep sounds very good during my shift. But the fact that I love what I do, and you are there right along with me, it helps me keep going. Thanks again for your support and we will talk to you again soon.
